Google announces $6.5M funding to help fight coronavirus misinformation

In an effort to help address the challenge of the ongoing spread of misinformation related to the coronavirus pandemic, Google is providing $6.5 million in funding to fact-checkers and nonprofits fighting misinformation around the world. Google will be supporting Africa Check in Nigeria, and Data Leads in partnership with BOOM Live in India to leverage data from Question Hub. The Finnfund has invested $1M in Kasha, the Rwandan e-commerce platform improving women’s access to genuine health, hygiene and self-care products in East Africa. Design Innovation Seed Fund open for applications

The Craft and Design Institute (CDI) has opened its latest call for applications for its Design Innovation Seed Fund (DISF). Designers, inventors, entrepreneurs and product developers who are based in the Western Cape and have pre-revenue innovations can apply for grant funding of up to R800 000. Applications close at 5pm on 17 April. The seed fund is managed by the CDI’s CDI Capital, with investment funds provided by the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA).
