Renewvia Energy partners with DPI
US solar developer Renewvia Energy Corporation has teamed up with Singapore-based renewable energy investor Dream Projects Incubators (DPI) to develop solar micro-grids in Kenya and Nigeria. On 17 March, the two companies announced the formation of a special purpose entity to capitalise large portfolios of solar micro-grid projects in sub-Saharan Africa. The first ten projects have received capital support from the French Development Bank and the World Bank, according to the partners. Côte d’Ivoire: $57.3m in electrification contracts
CI-Energies on 20 March awarded seven contracts to electrify 350 locations in Côte d’Ivoire. The contracts are being financed by the French Development Agency. Morocco’s Fabrilec, part of MMK group, and Ivorian consultancy SNE were awarded the $4.67m Lot 1 contract to electrify 42 localities in Gbêkê region as well as the $8.03m Lot 3 contract to connect 37 locations in Iffou region, 14 in Mé, four in Abidjan and one in Sud-Comoé. Kenyan fintech startup Pezesha earlier this month took house the Finest Catapulter Award on the conclusion of the Catapult: Inclusion Africa fintech bootcamp hosted by The Luxembourg Home of Monetary Know-how (LHoFT). Egypt central bank plans $50mn to $100 mn fintech fund
Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) is set to establish ~$58 million fund (EGP 1 billion) to invest in FinTech startups of the country, CBE’s Sub Governor for Payment Systems and Information. “Egypt has the success factors that qualify it to pioneer in the financial technology industry, including the huge demand for financial services, strong banking sector, telecommunications companies, electronic payment companies, insurance companies, regulatory institutions, incubators, business accelerators, investors, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) financiers,” said the CBE executive. Mohamed Okasha to launch $25 million fintech fund
In a conversation with MENAbytes, Mohamed who’s considered one of the key figures of the Egyptian fintech ecosystem has revealed that he is launching a $25 million fintech fund that Fawry has committed to anchor. He also said that he is launching the fund with a team of seasoned investment experts, without sharing further details. The fund will invest in Egyptian fintech startups across different stages.
